Mentoring Initiative Specialist

Position Summary

Provide both programmatic and administrative support to the Mentoring Initiative to ensure youth within Palm Beach County have access to quality mentoring programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Build a network of mentors and programs within Palm Beach County
    • Develop relationships among community stakeholders to identify and develop recruitment strategies for mentors
    • Assist in the development of tools and resources for effective mentor recruitment events within targeted geographic areas and among demographically diverse populations
    • Conduct outreach within the community to identify informal mentoring programs within targeted geographic areas and develop a forum to share best practices
  • Participate in the Request for Application (RFA) process for investments related to mentoring
    • Assist with the development of the RFA document, application and other related materials
    • Help coordinate the agency orientation and information sessions
    • Assist with managing the volunteer review and allocation recommendation process
  • Maintain the integrity of information in databases to ensure compliance and inform future investments
  • Measure, communicate and learn from the impact of our efforts:
    • Manage adherence to United Way policies and standards for a portfolio of mentoring grants
    • Monitor the outcome evaluation process and provide consultative support to agencies
    • Prepare documentation and relevant reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop written documents as needed to increase awareness related to mentoring
    • Promote the Mentor Center through social media platforms
    • Coordinate with the marketing department to develop an ongoing community-wide public relations and mentor recruitment campaign within targeted geographic areas and among demographically diverse populations
  • Participate in the development of grant applications as needed to increase investments related to mentoring
  • Collaborate with the Associate Vice President and Training Specialist (and others as specified) to identify and implement training opportunities for funded programs, as well as the Mentor Center Network
  • Serve as a liaison for nonprofit agencies to coordinate and assess youth mentor related needs
  • Collaborate with Palm Beach County's Youth Services Department to host and participate in My Brother's Keeper events
  • Assist, as assigned by management, with the organization's disaster response efforts
  • Perform other duties as opportunities are presented and/or assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor's degree, social science, business or liberal arts preferred
  • Minimum two years related experience in the human services field with program development, administration, fiscal oversight and comfort in collaborating with leaders
  • Experience working in a team environment, managing/facilitating effective groups, developing collaborations, and working with volunteers
  • Knowledge of program evaluation methodologies, outcome measurement practices, analyzing data and using data to inform and improve program performance and outcomes
  • Ability to travel throughout Palm Beach County and attend National Conferences, i.e., Mentoring Summit, MentorCon
  • Excellent project management skills to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, implementing and completing projects within stated timelines
  • Demonstration of outstanding interpersonal, meeting facilitation, presentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, think strategically and effectively solve problems
  • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills
