Position Summary

Lead volunteers, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, elected officials, government organizations, donors, and other experts in developing and implementing community impact strategies within the assigned Hunger Relief focus area(s). This role assists the Vice President for Hunger Relief with hunger relief oversight for all of Palm Beach County, working with more than 150 community partners, the Hunger Relief Advisory Council, five work groups, and eight subcommittees. The role exists because of the need to alleviate hunger and poverty through an organized, diligent, data-driven, and grassroots-level relationship-driven environment within the community. The overall goal is to end hunger and build the capacity for our residents to become financially secure and self-supporting to achieve economic success.

This position supports the Palm Beach County Hunger Relief Plan with project management, operational oversight, and management and administrative services for individuals with food insecurity as part of a county-wide Collective Impact initiative. The position's primary objective is coordinating all areas of the Hunger Relief Plan, including children, youth, seniors, families, and others in the community, infrastructure, and SNAP outreach and hunger relief advocacy, working to resolve food insecurity in Palm Beach County.

The Senior Director for Hunger Relief operates alongside the Vice President for Hunger Relief, working closely with the staff, AmeriCorps VISTAs, community partners, and stakeholders to research, develop, and implement various initiatives, partnerships, programs, and special events. The Senior Director for Hunger Relief works closely with community leaders in business, government, education, non-profit, and faith-based organizations, as well as volunteers to develop and expand relationships and partnerships to assure needs are met by attaining maximum community involvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide administrative and management support to the Vice President for Hunger Relief
  • Research, analyze and synthesize pertinent data
  • Establish and track goals, strategies, and outcomes
  • Work with Hunger Relief work groups, subcommittees, community leaders, community partners, and residents to identify and establish targets, strategies, goals, and tactics
  • Oversee and manage hunger relief projects and initiatives
  • Conduct site visits, attend open houses, and community and resource fairs and events about Hunger Relief efforts
  • Build community partnerships and relationships and facilitate collaboration among community partners, social service agencies, faith-based organizations, businesses, education institutions, donors, and other key community stakeholders around the development and implementation of partnership initiatives or specific strategies
  • Participate in relevant community meetings, coalitions, task forces, and committees
  • Coordinate activities and communication with appropriate organizations (e.g.., local partners, state, county, local commissions, networks, councils, etc.) as they relate to the work of the Hunger Relief Plan and focus areas
  • Facilitate the grant funding allocation process for investments in hunger relief focus areas
  • Develop the appropriate documents, applications, and other related materials
  • Manage the volunteer review and recommendation process
  • Provide consultation for other hunger relief-related investments
  • Develop funding priorities for each hunger relief focus area within targeted geographic areas
  • Assist with researching grant opportunities for all programs and projects within the hunger relief department
  • Assist with securing funding through sources such as government and private grants, major gifts, and in-kind support for Hunger Relief, in conjunction with other United Way staff
  • Manage department calendar for grants, grant-related/project deadlines, and other deliverables
  • Oversee, supervise, and develop planned and executed initiatives, partnerships, programs, and events in conjunction with the Hunger Relief Manager, Hunger Relief Operations Specialist, and Hunger Relief AmeriCorps VISTAs, as requested
  • Provide technical assistance and research policies and best practices for various hunger relief efforts, as requested
  • Stay current on issues and statistics relevant to hunger relief policy, federal feeding programs, and best practices at the local, state, and national level
  • Participate, as assigned, in outreach activities/community meetings to promote hunger relief efforts
  • Contribute to community, regional, state, and national planning activities, as requested
  • Provide leadership to subcontracted Hunger Relief partners to ensure a comprehensive, coordinated effort in delivering services, and quality assurance
  • Formulate, implement, and evaluate programs to assess outcomes and overall effectiveness, collecting qualitative/quantitative data on all funded programs, determining program implementation efficiency in line with our division processes
  • Monitor the outcome evaluation process and provide consultative support
  • Prepare documentation and relevant reports paying attention to detail to ensure accuracy
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to communicate the impact of United Way's Hunger Relief investments to corporate and individual donors as well as the broader community
  • Assist, as assigned by management, with the organization's disaster response efforts
  • Perform other duties as opportunities are presented and assigned
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed

  • Bachelor's degree required, social science, business, or liberal arts preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience in the human service field with a program development, administration, budgeting, and comfort in collaborating with leaders
  • Experience working in a team environment, managing/facilitating influential groups, developing collaboratives, and working with volunteers
  • Knowledge and experience of program evaluation methodologies and outcome measurement practices (including data analyses)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
